Nesting: Part 1

I suppose week 14 is when the nesting starts to take root :)

We've been blessed with so many gifts and inherited items from family and friends. We've cleaned out the room, swapped out a few furniture pieces, and sorted out what's going on the walls. Because we have an older house, our plaster walls aren't as accepting of mounted things so we have to place things right the first time.

Our plan is having a lighter wood stain convertible crib to match the bookcase and dresser that we already have. We're going to place a changing cushion thingy on top of the dresser so we don't have to go out and buy a brand new piece. We're going to put a slew of records on one of the walls, at least 9, and they're going to look awesome!! We also have a larger collage frame where we're putting pictures of family members.

Still not quite sure of the color scheme yet. I'm thinking primary colors so we can keep everything for all of the other bundles of joy we're praying we'll have. BABIES!!

This picture is of my first project: I bought about 12 different records from Goodwill for 50 cents each. Michael's was having a sale on record frames so we stocked up at $5 each. This is the gender neutral version. I have more things for girls than boys (especially since I love musicals and ballet) so Jonathan will need to help me find some manly records if we end up having a boy.

Festively Plump

I'm way rounder than any of the other October girls in my office.. like, way bigger. I'm the last one due and I'm at least twice as big as them.

Twins? Big German baby baking? Tomorrow is my doctor's appointment so I'll be sure to ask.

Here are some other questions I'll be asking:

  1. We're planning on flying to San Francisco over Memorial Day - is that safe?
    1. I'm cleared for take-off!
  2. While we're in San Francisco, can I have fish one time?
    1. Basically, I can eat smaller, cleaner fish. Tuna is higher in mercury because it's a very large fish that eats other fish. Salmon on the other hand is better for me and I can have it about once a week.
  3. I'm drinking at least 3-4 soda slurpees a week - is that safe?
    1. Yes and no - be careful of the sugar content. It's easy to drink a ton of calories if I'm not careful.
  4. I'm still nauseas quite often - can I get more zofran?
    1. Yep, she sent a message to the pharmacy while I was in the room with her. I love technology!
  5. Do you have a magic pill that will shrink my boobs?
    1. Ha, I forgot to ask this one. My guess is no.
  6. Am I carrying more than one kid because it sure looks like it.
    1. She said they likely would have seen it on the 8 week ultrasound if I was.
  7. If not, what else am I packing in there?
    1. Some women are just more "showy" than others. I think I'm shaping up to be a basketball smugler.

14 Weeks

Almost barf free for a full week!

My belly is quickly expanding. There is no more hope for my pre-prego pants. I am now the proud owner of 4 prego pants, 1 prego skirt, 2 prego dresses and 4 prego tops. I can still wear some pre-prego tops and dresses so that helps a great deal when it comes to dressing for work.

This weekend was exactly what we needed. It was full of fun and relaxing when it needed to be. Our families are awesome :) This child will be so loved by their parents, (great) grandparents, and both related and honorary aunts and uncles.

And here is something you've been waiting for: A prego picture!!

I didn't want to post tons of pictures of me. I've been bloaty and feeling pretty fugly everyday. This is one of my new dresses and I felt like a 40s housewife - I love it! AND it has pockets!! Dresses tend to make my bump look bigger so I'll post a pic of me in jeans soon.

Easter Weekend

This weekend has been so much fun! We drove up to see my folks and I've been able to put in some great quality slash shopping time with mom. Lisa, my brother's wife, is also pregnant (YAAAAAY!) So we were able to share craving stories and anecdotes. I'm really thankful we are going through this together. She's due in November so she is sick like I was last month. Bleeeh.

Tomorrow is Easter with Briana and Mike then dinner with the Mills'. Woo hoo!

What's it like?

What's it like? Well, I'll tell you!

At this point I don't feel a baby, so I can't tell you what that part is like.

I can tell you that each day feels like a toss up between having mono or having the flu (and on some days its like having both.) I am extremely thankful to have a job that allows me to work from home so I can keep up with duties and interacting with my staff. I know it's a luxury and not a right in our modern economy. God is good and drugs are, too. (Rx drugs of course)

13 Weeks

My kid is the size of a peach!

Nausea is subsiding - I haven't barfed in 4 days!!! That's a new record!! Slurpees are still a constant companion. I still love dairy but can't eat as much meat as before. Steak is starting to get gross, chicken is a little better, but peanutbutter is tasting more edible each day.

My belly seems to be on schedule, too judging by this artists rendering of a behbeh inside a belleh. My next appointment is a week and a half from now. This weekend will be super fun- I get to see my family and go maternity clothes shoppping with mom and Lisa! yay!!

To summarize: my skin has worsened, my confusion increased, and my thankfulness has multiplied to nearly infinite. I can't find any reason to not praise Him! This child is an undeserved blessing - God is good.

I don't like food.

I used to be a foodie - I loved food!

Now?

< complain >
I'd rather take a pill that would give me all of my nutrients and skip the process of tasting, chewing, and swallowing. The smells and tastes are especially annoying right now. Saltines and ginger ale make me gag, I miss eating steak, and I just want a slice of pizza with chunky tomato sauce that my baby will accept.

I'm like Bon Jovi except I'm living on Slurpees and Cheerios.

Second Trimester! 12 Weeks

2nd trimester. awwwwesome.

My 12 week old is now able to urinate inside of me- how gross is that! According to the website:

Your little fetus weighs as much as half an ounce now, and the crown-to-rump length is about two and a half inches (the size of a large plum — busily working his or her way through the whole produce department). It's hard to believe (especially from the outside, since you're probably barely showing at this point), but your baby has more than doubled in size during the past three weeks.  And that's just on the outside — there's plenty going on inside too. The fetal digestive system is beginning to flex its digestive muscle — literally — as it starts practicing contraction movements, a skill your baby will need after birth to push food through the digestive tract. The pituitary gland at the base of the brain has started producing hormones. And the bone marrow is making white blood cells, which will one day help your baby fight infection (including all those germs passed around the snot-nosed playgroup).

On an annoying note, someone said my pudge was cute.

Really? Pudge?
I don't mind someone saying I have a cute bump, but calling it a pudge is a slap in the face. According to this artist rendering of a woman's tummy, I'm right on track (when I'm sucking in..)

Better

It's amazing how much better one feels after tossing cookies.

Something else that makes me feel better is knowing I have wonderful friends :) Amanda surprised Jonathan and I with a visit and gifts! She bought me Tangled and she bought Jonathan Tron. Any friend that would buy my husband a gift too deserves a gold star in my book. Plus, she's just awesome anyway so this just added to the overall awesomeness.
------------
Update: throwing up pre-natal vitamins does NOT make you feel better; it just feels disgusting.

11 Weeks - Last Week of the First Trimester!

This little zygote is swimming around like Michael Phelps. We got a fetal heart monitor from Brad and Courtney and we had a hard time trying to get it to swim in one place. At least it looks human now!

I am so excited that this is the last week of the first trimester. My barf has transitioned from exclusively liquid to all inclusive. Still no weight gain, but my wardrobe options are dwindling by the day. It's becoming more "okay" for me to show, so I'm transitioning from baggy shirts to more form fitting clothes. Everyone knows I'm prego at this point so there's no point trying to hide it any longer! Speaking of clothes, ThinkGeek has some stellar baby stuff. (Grand)Mom is having fun shopping for her first grandchild! (Grand)Dad still loves to refer to it as LP (little peanut/little parasite)

Food : Part 3

The food I could rely on is no longer an option.

I hate the taste of ginger(ale), I gag when I brush my teeth with mint tooth paste, and I can barely finish a saltine. However, I LOVE jello!! I can also do lemon and lime flavored things.

Usually Thai was my go-to when feeling especially awful. We bought Thai today and after four bites, I put it in the fridge and laid down in agony. Did you know that Thai noodles comes up pink? True story. My post-barf treat was a strawberry milkshake and chex mix.
---------
On a related note, if you want to have a horror movie barf, I recommend eating red jello, steak, apple juice, and salad. It's pretty horrific, especially in a McDonald's bathroom during Saturday lunch rush.
